This updated training module provides a rationale for intensive intervention and an overview of data-based individualization (DBI), NCII’s approach to providing intensive intervention, and lessons learned from implementing DBI. DBI is a research-based process for individualizing validated interventions through the systematic use of assessment data to determine when and how to intensify intervention. This is the first in a series of training modules developed by NCII aimed at district or school teams involved in initial planning for using DBI as a framework for providing intensive intervention in academics and behavior. The audience for this module may include interventionists, special educators, behavior support team members, school psychologists, counselors, and administrators, as appropriate.
The module is intended to be delivered by a trained, knowledgeable professional and includes a PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes and a workbook of handouts. It was updated in October 2020 based on lessons learned from implementation.
